Today, Wednesday 12th, will remain a ‘mourning memorable day’ if I may describe it rightly for many who have passed through the teachings and training of the once popular ‘Madam Ladi’. A remarkable woman, a trailblazer, and a true icon in the world of broadcasting, Prof. Ladi Sandra Adamu, who was the first female professor of Broadcasting from Northern Nigeria. Her passing will leave an indelible mark on the hearts of her family, acquaintances, colleagues, the academic community of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and the entire communication family in Nigeria.
Those who knew Prof. Ladi Sandra Adamu from afar may remember her as a no-nonsense, hard, and bold individual, but those who had the privilege of knowing her closely knew a different person altogether. Beneath her tough exterior lay a heart of gold, a kind and accommodating soul who generously shared her wealth of experiences in the field and beyond, her guidance and mentorship I believe will continue to inspire countless individuals.
Her commitment and dedication to education, passion for storytelling, and unrelenting pursuit of excellence inspired countless students and colleagues. She paved the way for future generations of women in media, academia and beyond, showing us that with courage and determination, anything is possible. Her legacy will continue to inspire and empower us to be our best selves.
Rest on, Prof. Adamu. Your memory will be a blessing to us all.
