The Chief magistrate court II sitting in Dutse, sentence honourable Shu’aibu Kashim Dila to five years Imprisonment or payment of five million as restitution/compensation to nominal complainant.
The court sitting presided over by Chief magistrate Abdullahi Ibrahim Aliyu was due to the Jigawa State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (JSPCACC), secured a conviction against the defendant On 8th day of October, 2025.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Director education and public relations of the commission Yusif Sulaiman and made it available to news men.
According to the statement, the defendant was arraigned on a three-count charge of criminal conspiracy, criminal breach of trust, and cheating.
The statement narrated the background of the case that, On the 17th of February, 2025, one Aisha Yusuf of Hadejia Local Government Area, Jigawa State, through her legal representatives Adamu Garba and Muhammad Alhaji, lodged a written complaint dated 17/02/2025 against Hon. Shu’ibu Kashim Dila of Malam Madori Local Government Area, Jigawa State.
The complainant alleged that the defendant, in conspiracy with his wife, deceitfully obtained the sum of ₦5,000,000.00 (Five Million Naira) from her under the pretext that the said amount would be repaid within one month. Both parties executed a written agreement to that effect. However, upon the expiration of the agreed period, the defendant mischievously sent his wife to an unknown location in an attempt to evade their obligation.
The statement said, upon investigation by the Commission during which the defendant made a confessional statement, and other evidences gathered by the Commission’s investigators established intent to defraud the complainant.
Thus, the Commission arraigned the defendant before Chief Magistrate Abdullahi Ibrahim Aliyu Esq .of Chief Magistrate II Dutse on a three-count charge of: Criminal Conspiracy, Criminal Breach of Trust and Cheating
During the trial, the defendant pleaded not guilty to all the charges. The Commission’s prosecution team led by Barrister Zubairu Haladu, called three witnesses and tendered two exhibits in proof of its case and subsequently closed its case. The defense, in turn, called two witnesses, including the defendant himself, and tendered no exhibit before closing its case. Both parties thereafter filed and adopted their final written addresses.
On the 8th of October, 2025, the Chief Magistrate Abdullahi Ibrahim Aliyu, Esq., of Chief Magistrate Court II, Dutse, delivered judgment in favour of the JSPCACC, convicting and sentence the defendant after careful consideration of evidences presented by Commission’s prosecution team as follows:
1. A fine of ₦50,000 or 3 months imprisonment for the offence of criminal breach of trust;
2. A fine of ₦50,000 or 3 months imprisonment for the offence of cheating;
3. A fine of ₦30,000 or 2 months imprisonment;
4. Payment of ₦5,000,000 as restitution/compensation to the nominal complainant, or 5 years imprisonment in default;
5. Payment of ₦250,000 to cover prosecution expenses, or 4 months imprisonment in default.
The Court ordered that all sentences shall run consecutively.
The trial which lasted for six months further demonstrated the Commission’s unwavering commitment to ensuring accountability, transparency, and justice in Jigawa State.
