The UK Government through Foreign Commonwealth Development Office (FCDO) in Collaboration with United Nations Children Education Fund (UNICEF), have inaugurated and Handedover the upgraded Climate Resilient Infrastructure for Basic Services(CRIBS) to Jigawa State Governmen
The inauguration ceremony of upgraded infrastructures that includes: Primary Healthcare Centres and primary Schools, took place on Monday at Chamo PHCs and Chamo Primary school area of Dutse local government Jigawa.
Speaking during the handing over, the Development Director, Foreign Commonwealth Development Office (FCDO) of the United Kingdom, Cynthia Rowe said, the CRIBS was done by FCDO, UNICEF and other partners to tackle Climate Change Challenges in Jigawa state.
According to her, Nigeria is exposed to several climate hazards, such as floods, droughts, heatwaves, sea-level rise, affecting millions of people each year.
She maintained that, Nigeria is ranked second among the countries where children face the highest climate-related risks, directly threatening their ability to survive, grow, learn and fulfil their potential.
While making her remarks, the UNICEF country representative Mrs Wafaa Saeed, commended Jigawa state governor for his commitments toward improving the lives of women and children.
Mrs Saeed, who promised to continue supporting Jigawa on issues tha would improve children welfare added that, UNICEF in collaboration with the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and several other partners, including the State Governments of Kano and Jigawa, developed an innovative project, the Climate Resilient Infrastructure for Basic Services (CRIBS) Health and Education.
While making his remarks, the state governor Malam Umar Namadi described the efforts as innovative strategies to tackle Climate Change Challenges in Jigawa and the country at large.
According to him, Jigawa is among the state experiencing some natural disasters like flooding, Drougth and other Climate Change Challenges that affecting schools and health facilities in the state.
He then, commended FCDO, UNICEF and other partners for supporting Jigawa state. The governor promised to continue partnering with them for better well-being of children, women and the state at large.
