The Civil Society Scaling-up Nutrition in Nigeria (CS-SUNN) Jigawa chapter, has commended Jigawa state government for the release of N250 counterpart funding to United Nations Children’s Education Fund (UNICEF) for the procurement of Ready to Use Therapeutic Food to tackle malnutrion in the state.
The commendation was contained in a statement signed by the state coordinator Civil Society Scaling-up Nutrition in Nigeria (CS-SUNN) Comrade Shu’aibu Musa Kafin-Gana and made it available to news men in Dutse.
He explained that, the release of fund shows the state government’s commitments and concerns on children’s health in the state.
Comrade Kafin-Gana then, called on the relevant Stakeholders for proper distribution and monitoring of the RUTF to meet the target beneficiaries for achieving the desired goals of reducing malnutrion rate.
Meanwhile during it’s last sitting, the Jigawa State Executive Council approved the release of Two Hundred and Fifty Million Naira (₦250,000,000.00) as matching fund for the procurement of Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) in partnership with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
According to the council resolution, the approval underscores the administration’s dedication to addressing severe acute malnutrition (SAM) among children under five and ensuring that no child in the state is left behind in the fight against hunger and disease.
“The Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) is a life-saving nutritional product used in the community-based treatment of children suffering from severe acute malnutrition. This intervention, in collaboration with UNICEF, will significantly scale up access to treatment for affected children across the state”,
The council then, reiterated the present administration’s focus on delivering impactful health and nutrition programmes that target the most vulnerable populations, especially children, in order to reduce child mortality and improve long-term health outcomes.
