The day Thursday 11 September, 2025 has opened a new era in the history of Jigawa Civil Society Organizations, as it marked the day of formation of a strong coalition that comprised almost all the Non State Actors into a single Platform with a specify goals and objectives.
Though the journey started some days before, in Kaduna during their meeting organised and by Partnership for Agile Governance and Climate Engagement (PACE) supported by FCDO, but the meeting finalized on that historic Thursday and leaders emerged for both State and Non State Actors to lead the journey.
The aims of the meeting is to establish a strong platform or coalition in Jigawa state that would lead the struggle on how to reduce Climate Change Challenges, enhance economic empowerment and promote more Social Protection to Jigawa citizens.
The meeting also equipped the participants with knowledge and skills on how to conduct advocacy, Conflicts resolution as well as the formation of coalition for a successful team work.
After a serious and meaningful deliberation among the versatile members of CSOs from every corner of the state, the house agreed with the name,structure, two technical committees and leadership of the coalition.
The meeting agreed with name of the coalition as Jigawa Climate Action, Economic Empowerment, and Responsive Governance (JiCERGO) and elected its pioneer leadership team under comrade Shuaibu Musa Kafingana.
The participants reach agreement of two Co-Chairs, one from State Actors and other one from Non State Actors. The participants agreed with State Commissioner of budget and economic planning Alhaji Babangida Umar Gantsa as Co-Chair (State Actors), while Comrade Shu’aibu Musa Kafin-Gana Emerges as Co-Chair (Non State Actors).
Other executives includes Comrade Ahmed Illallah as chairman Climate Action with Khadija Bello as his vice, Mustapha Umar Babura as chairman Economic Empowerment and Social Protection with Yusif Jafar to serve as his vice.
The coalition, which brings together leading voices in civic engagement, governance, and development, aims to strengthen inclusive governance, promote economic empowerment, tackle climate-related challenges and social protections across the state.
Meanwhile, the emergence of the leadership is no longer an issue, but rather the challenges ahead and of course addressing this serious challenges is what determines the giant strides of the coalition and also determines the future of Jigawa citizens in the corridor of climate change effects, economic Development and social protection.
As stated by some of the facilitators during the meeting in Kaduna”One of the major challenge facing the coalition is how to write a very good proposal that can compete with others worldwide, and win the Grant for the successful continuation of their workplan”.
Though the newly elected Co-Chair NSA of the coalition, Comrade Shu’aibu Musa Kafin-Gana Promised to work tirelessly, but he said this can be achievable with compassion, cooperation and support from the members.
“As a leader I’m not better than anyone of you, and with your support and cooperation, we will deliver and we will take Jigawa to a better level by God grace”, Kafin-Gana said.
He then, appreciated the members for having confidence on him, and commended the Partnership for Agile Governance and Climate Engagement (PACE), supported by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), for their role in shaping and supporting the coalition.
