As part of effort to address farmers Herders Clashes in Jigawa state, the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) Jigawa state chapter, has organized a one day workshop for Farmers and herders in the state.
The meeting that gathered all relevant stakeholders including leadership of farmers, Herders, securities agencies, traditional and religious leaders took place at Ahmadu Bello Hall New Secretariat Dutse on Wednesdays.
Speaking during the workshop, the Chairman of All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) Jigawa State Chapter, Engr. Auwalu Garba Ibrahim said, the meeting aimed to bring together leadership of two parties and other stakeholders to discuss the challenges and design a better solution for peace, stability and development of the state.
“We here today with all relevant stakeholders to understand each other, identify the challenges and agree on better solution for peace, and stability of our dear state”, he said.
According to him, the leadership of major groups of farmers and herders from the state like Miyetti Allah, Miyetti Allah Kautal hore, Fulbe Awareness and Peace Orientation Association, Gam Allah Fulbe, Fulbe Political Awareness, Kazaure Farmers Associations, Ringim farmers Association, Kiri-kasamma farmers association among many others.
Some of the major challenges identified during the workshop include Grazing reserve encroachment, Inadequate enlightenment campaign, establishment of more grazing reserve, lack of law enforcement from security agencies, allocation of grazing reserve to an individuals, mob action from the aggrieved Youths among many other challenges.
While announcing the designed roadmap to address the challenges, Prof Ado Garba Jangargari who served as Moderator during the workshop, explained that, the two parties need to be enlighten on Forest reserve, Grazing reserve and cattle routes.
He maintained that, government on its part, need to embark on enlightenment campaign on the importance of peace and stability as well as to be proactive law enforcement and adopt modern Animals’ rearing system.
The the workshop also urged the Security operatives to enforce law and punish anyone who found guilty of causing any conflict within the two parties.
The meeting also advised Traditional and religious leaders to adopt peace resolutions strategies at grassroots level for better peace and stability in the Jigawa State.
