Katsina State Government has distributed motorcycles to outstanding teachers in the state, as part of efforts to boost morale and strengthen service delivery in the education sector.
Governor Dikko Umaru Radda launched the distribution at the headquarters of the Ministry for Basic and Secondary Education, located within the State Secretariat Complex in Katsina.
The governor also launched the distribution of teaching and learning materials, alongside laboratory equipment to selected secondary schools, aimed at improving teaching quality and learning outcomes.
Speaking at the event, Governor Radda said the initiative was designed to appreciate teachers for their contributions to the development of society and the future of Katsina State.
He reaffirmed that education remains a major pillar of his administration, noting that sustainable development cannot be achieved without a functional education system supported by qualified, committed and hardworking teachers.
Governor Radda disclosed that his administration has recruited over 7,000 teachers to address shortages in primary and secondary schools across the state, adding that plans are underway to recruit more within the year.
He said the 2026 budget made substantial provisions for the education sector, covering school infrastructure development, teachers’ welfare, provision of instructional materials and overall improvement in teaching quality.
The governor also announced the approval for the construction of 70 new secondary schools across the state, as well as the renovation of major schools and supply of relevant learning resources.
Governor Radda further disclosed that the government has approved the establishment of teacher training centres in each of the state’s three senatorial zones to strengthen capacity building and improve teachers’ professional skills.
He assured that the state government will introduce incentives for teachers in rural areas, including the provision of electric motorcycles to ease transportation challenges and enhance teaching effectiveness in hard-to-reach communities.
The governor commended the teachers honoured at the ceremony and urged them to sustain their dedication and commitment to duty.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Hon. Yusuf Sulaiman Jibia, said the initiative was aimed at recognising teachers’ contributions and reaffirming the government’s commitment to education as a foundation for development.
Also speaking, the Executive Chairman of the Katsina State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Dr. Kabir Magaji, said the board would continue implementing policies and programmes aimed at improving teaching standards and teachers’ welfare across the state.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the Teachers Service Board, Sada Ibrahim, applauded the state government for prioritising teachers’ welfare, noting that the support would boost morale and productivity.
On behalf of the Parent-Teacher Association, the District Head of Dutsin-ma, Alhaji Sada Muhammad Sada, expressed appreciation for the government’s efforts in strengthening education and improving the welfare of both teachers and students.
