A Non governmental organization known as Civil Society Coalition on Peace, Security and Conflict Resolution (CSCPSCR) commends the Jigawa State Executive Council for its recent approval of the procurement of ten (10) additional operational Toyota Hilux vehicles to strengthen internal security operations across the state.
This was contained in a statement signed by Chairman of the coalition Muhammad Musbahu Basirka and made it available to news men in Dutse.
This timely intervention reflects a clear understanding of the evolving security environment and the critical need to enhance mobility, rapid response, and overall operational efficiency of security agencies.
“As a result of these sustained government efforts, Jigawa State continues to rank as one of the most peaceful states in the North-West region, despite the prevailing security challenges confronting neighbouring states.
“We particularly applaud the people-centred leadership of His Excellency, Governor Malam Umar Namadi, FCA, whose administration continues to show strong political will in safeguarding lives, property, and social stability. This further investment in security infrastructure reinforces public confidence and sends a strong signal that peace and safety remain a top priority of the Jigawa State Government”, the statement said.
According to the statement, Beyond physical security, the Coalition places strong emphasis on the urgent and effective implementation of the Jigawa State Social Security (Social Protection) Law—a historic and visionary policy that has positioned Jigawa State as the first state in Nigeria to enact a comprehensive social protection law. The law is designed to uplift the most vulnerable members of society, particularly persons with special needs, while strengthening social inclusion, wellbeing, and human dignity.
We commend His Excellency for approving an increase in the number of beneficiaries under the scheme. As approved:
- Each of the 27 Local Government Areas is to support 200 beneficiaries;
- This brings the total number of beneficiaries to 5,400 statewide;
- Each beneficiary is to receive ₦10,000;
- Funding is to be shared on a 60 per cent contribution by Local Governments and 40 per cent by the State Government; and
- Payments were approved to commence from January 2025.
Despite these laudable approvals, the Coalition notes with concern that payments are yet to commence. This delay is largely due to the fact that only three Local Government Areas have so far fulfilled their required financial contributions. Prolonged delay risks undermining the credibility and transformative potential of a law that holds enormous promise for poverty reduction, social stability, and public trust in government.
In the spirit of partnership and constructive civic engagement, we respectfully call on the Jigawa State Government to consider declaring a focused administrative “state of emergency” on the implementation of the Social Security Law, particularly concerning Local Government compliance and funding obligations. Such a measure, which was anchored in dialogue, coordination, and accountability, would accelerate implementation and ensure that no eligible beneficiary is left behind.
We remain confident that under the reform-driven leadership of Governor Umar Namadi, FCA, Jigawa State will continue to set national benchmarks in internal security management and social protection delivery.
The Civil Society Coalition on Peace, Security, and Conflict Resolution reiterates its commitment to supporting government efforts through advocacy, monitoring, and community engagement to promote peace, security, and improved wellbeing for all citizens of Jigawa State.
