The Founder of HANS Center for Social Justice and Development, Hannatu Dauda Simon, has called on government, the private sector, civil society organisations and individuals to increase investment in women and girls to accelerate national development.
Simon made the appeal while commemorating the International Women’s Day 2026, stressing that empowering women remains key to building stronger families, communities and a more prosperous nation.
She said that within the last three years, the organisation has mentored over 200 young women, equipping them with leadership skills, confidence and the capacity to become productive members of society.
According to her, the initiative has also supported 120 girls in pursuing their academic and professional careers, while 100 young women have received entrepreneurship training that has enabled many of them to establish small businesses and contribute to economic growth in their communities.
Simon noted that the progress recorded by the organisation demonstrates the far-reaching impact of investing in women and girls.
“As we mark International Women’s Day 2026, we urge all stakeholders to join hands with us to invest in women and accelerate progress,” she said.
She emphasised the need for sustained collaboration to remove barriers limiting women’s opportunities, strengthen mentorship platforms and create enabling environments for young women to realise their full potential.
Simon added that investing in women would not only empower individuals but also create a ripple effect that transforms families, communities and the nation at large.
