As part of effort to use Demographic advantage for inclusive growth, the Jigawa State government with support From Lafiya UK program, formally inaugurated the Technical Working Group on Demographic Dividends in the state.
Speaking during the inauguration, the state commissioner of Budget and economic planning Alhaji Babangida Umar Gantsa who is also the chairman of Jigawa State Demographic Dividend Technical Working Group said, the idea to form the TWG came-up after presentation of the Document to Jigawa State executive council meeting at government house Dutse.
“After presentation of the Document before the state executive council, the governor and entire members of the council appreciated Lafiya UK program for supporting the development of Jigawa State Demographic Dividends. The council convinced with content of the Documents and instantly the governor approved all the Asks and content provided by the document.
“The governor also gave the directive for the formation of Technical Working Group for speedy implementation, and directed the group to be presenting a monthly progress reports to the state executive council “, the chairman said.
While presenting the document at the formal inauguration, the Consultant Lafiya UK program, Dr Zakirai explained that, the developed state document with five pillars, is aligned with National Development Plan and vision 2050 on Inclusive growth and Youths Empowerment.
According to him, the roadmap uses this Demographic advantage and aligns with World Demographic Dividends strategy to promote education, health, Empowerment, jobs and poverty reduction.
He said, the Roadmap objectives is to harnesses youth for jobs, skills and sustainable growth. To tackle high fertility, low education, unemployment and child poverty as well as to improve adolescent/maternal health and child survival.
Other objectives is to expand education, vocational training and entrepreneurship. To strengthen policy coordination, monitoring and accountability and to promote gender, equality, inclusion and resilience.
