The leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and its 2023 gubernatorial candidate in Jigawa State, Malam Aminu Ibrahim Ringim, has dismissed reports of mass defection from the NNPP to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), describing them as false and misleading.
Ringim’s reaction followed reports that the member representing Gwaram Federal Constituency, Hon. Yusuf Shitu Galambi, along with Musa Majia and Aminu Jahun, had defected to APC.
According to Ringim, those mentioned were never genuine members of the NNPP. “All the so-called defectors were originally members of the APC before joining us temporarily. Galambi was denied a ticket by the APC, and we gave him a platform to contest, which enabled his victory. Aminu Jahun was expelled from the PDP, and we accommodated him, though we were aware he maintained ties with the APC and leaked our internal discussions,” Ringim stated.
He further noted that Musa Majia was never active within the NNPP. “Majia was never part of our activities nor did he contribute to the growth of our party in any way,” he added.
Ringim emphasized that, based on these facts, the Jigawa NNPP does not recognize the defectors as genuine party members. “No single authentic NNPP member has defected to the APC in Jigawa State,” he asserted.
The NNPP leader reaffirmed the party’s commitment to building a credible political alternative focused on good governance and people-oriented leadership. He urged party supporters to remain steadfast and united in upholding the NNPP’s ideals.
Ringim also advised the state government to concentrate on delivering meaningful development projects to citizens rather than spreading false narratives about opposition defections.
It will be recalled that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) recently claimed to have received over 66,000 defectors from various opposition parties into its fold in Jigawa State.
