The Katsina State Executive Council has approved the procurement of 20,000 metric tonnes of assorted fertilizer to support farmers during the 2026 wet season farming across the State.
The approval was granted at the 2nd Regular Meeting of the State Executive Council for 2026, held at the Government House, Katsina, and presided over by Governor Dikko Umaru Radda.
Briefing journalists after the meeting, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Hon. Aliyu Lawal Shargalle, said the intervention is aimed at ensuring the timely availability of quality farm inputs to farmers at subsidised rates, in line with the State Government’s food security agenda.
According to him, the fertilizer package comprises 400,000 bags of NPK 20:10:10, NPK 15:15:15 and Urea, carefully selected to meet the diverse soil and crop needs of farmers across the State.
“This initiative is designed to boost agricultural productivity, enhance food security and improve the livelihoods of our rural farming communities,” the Commissioner stated. “By making fertilizer available on time and at affordable rates, the government is cushioning farmers against rising input costs and encouraging increased cultivation.”
Hon. Shargalle added that the programme will be implemented transparently to ensure equitable distribution to genuine farmers in all the 34 Local Government Areas of the State.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Radda administration to strengthening the agricultural sector as a key driver of economic growth, employment generation and sustainable development in Katsina State.
