The Katsina State Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs has awarded contracts for the renovation of dilapidated primary schools and classrooms in local government areas across the state.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Local Government Inspectorate, Hon. Lawal Rufa’i Safana, disclosed this to journalists after distributing letters of award to the contractors at the ministry’s headquarters in Katsina.
Lawal Safana stated that the contracts awarded for the schools renovations followed the declaration of a state of emergency on schools Rehabilitation by the state governor, aimed at improving teaching and learning and the education sector as a whole.
He said that the presentation of the award letters is the first phase of the project, with three schools selected from each local government area for immediate renovation.
“In line with the state of emergency declared by the Governor on school rehabilitation, today we have distributed letters of engagement to contractors who will commence the renovation of selected schools in all the local governments of the state.
“Under the whole initiative, a total of ten most dilapidated schools will be renovated in each LGA, and we are starting with three per LGA in this first phase. Once completed, the next batch will follow,” Lawal Rufa’i explained.
He added that during the engagement meeting with contractors, agreements were reached regarding adherence to project standards and timelines, with all work expected to be completed within just two months.
“The current phase of the schools renovation project has a budget of ₦2.5 billion.” Safana revealed.
