European Union (EU), in partnership with German Cooperation and the Federal government have organized a two day advocacy capacity building training of fifty (50) members of ward development support committee (WDSC) in Guyuk local council area of Adamawa state.
The program is being implemented by Oxfam,Crudan, Community Development & Reproductive Health Initiative, Nigeria (CODERHI), and Yaharakari Foundation in which WDSC members are playing the role of community representatives on a mission to promote social and economic growth of their Communities.
In his welcome remarks at the training on Monday in Guyuk local government area, Samuel Lashon project Coordinator, Oxfam Nigeria explained that the training is aimed at promotion of monitoring community development plans and lobbying for its implementation as well as reporting ithe results and progress to the ward residents.
Lashon said that the WDSC members were trained on community leadership and effective leadership style for running community action groups with a view to strengthen the members ability to report and document their activities.
Lashon reiterated the importance of the training to allow WDSC members to adequately understand their roles and responsibilities in implemention of the local government area development plan and commit to action points for promoting a safe, inclusive and gender -responsive environment in their wards.
While urging all participants to ensure effective and efficient safeguarding of their Communities for development, the Coordinator charged them to contribute their quota in championing the progress of their Communities.
Earlier in his address representative of the Guyuk Council Chairman and supervisory Counselor on Education,Hon Ali Audu expressed gratitude to the organizers of the training describing it as gateway to control development of their localities jealously.
Audu remarked that the intervention can only be compared with attaining self reliance through development partners who always assist in showing the way to the beneficiaries.
In their separate responses as participants, Miss Nah Abanitus and Mr.Salom Danfulani applauded the opportunity and platform provided to them to contribute in transforming their various community.
They both pledged to do their best in ensuring the sustainability of the program and to stepping down the knowledge impacted on them to the large community as good ambassadors to their people.
Our Correspondent reported that the training themed “Support to improving social cohesion through community development planning in 3 LGAs in North East, Nigeria” trained fifty (50) WDSC members from Guyuk and Purokayo wards respectively.
