The Partnership Against Violent Extremism (PAVE) Network Jigawa state chapter, has called for the residents of Jigawa state to remain vigilant, support community alerts systems and reject all forms of extremism narratives.
The call was made by the chairman of the network Comrade Musbahu Basirka, while providing an update on the state of preventing and Countering Violent and Extremism (PCVE) in Jigawa state, during the press conference held at Manpower Development Institute Dutse.
He also called on the traditional and religious leaders to continue promoting peace, tolerance and social cohesion, adding that, Youth and Women groups should lead resilience – building initiatives and positive counter-narratives in the state.
Comrade Basirka who said, State government should continue to provide leadership and coordination in driving PCVE agenda, Urged MDAs and local governments to mainstream PCVE into policies, plans, and budgets, and called on the need for security agencies to deepen community engagement while upholding human rights and rule of law.
While speaking on PCVE progress engagement in Jigawa, he explained that, in collaboration with government institutions communities and partners, the PAVE Network recorded measurable progress in strengthening PCVE architecture across the state.
He said, the progress was achieved through Capacity Building and Institutional Strengthening, training and activation of Technical Working Groups (TWGs) for the co-creation of the State Action Plan (SAP) and Local Action Plans (LAPs) on PCVE; sensitisation workshops to deepen understanding of local drivers of extremism and prevention strategies, Dialogue and Community Consultations among many other activities.
Comrade Basirka then, reaffirm the network commitment to a collaborative, inclusive, and evidence-based approach to preventing and countering violent extremism.
“Peace and resilience are not abstract ideals; they are collective responsibilities. Together, we can prevent the spread of violent extremism, protect our communities, and secure a peaceful and prosperous future for Jigawa State and the North-West region” he said.
