In a bid to strengthen democracy, the Executive Chairman of Qua’an-Pan Local Government Council, Christopher Audu Manship, pledged support for the continuous voter registration (CVR) mobilization in the area.
The Chairman in a statement signed by Danaan Cletus Sylvanus, his Director of Press and Publicity, said he made the pledge during a meeting convened by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of the Local Government, held at the NUT hall, Doemak.
The Chairman, represented by his Deputy, Parlong Chrysantus Kangshal, commended INEC for its proactive approach in engaging with stakeholders across the local government and assured the council’s commitment to enhance the voter registration drive.
Highlighted the importance for eligible voters to participate in the registration exercise, noting that their Permanent Voter Card (PVC) is their instrument to fight against bad governance.
The Chairman reiterated his administration’s commitment to inclusive governance, regardless of political party, religion, or ethnicity, and charged INEC to remain impartial without taking sides in the registration process to ensure integrity and fairness.
Earlier, the INEC Officer of Qua’an-Pan Local Government, Kumaga Moses Tar, stated that the meeting aimed to dialogue with stakeholders, political parties, traditional rulers, and security agencies on the rules guiding the voters’ registration process.
Tar assured Qua’an-Pan Local Government of INEC’s commitment to facilitating registration in the area and charged eligible voters to avoid disenfranchisement while urging those who are not eligible to refrain from the process.
Also speaking, Long Kwa Miskagam Ignatius Didel, representing the Acting Chairman of Qua’an-Pan Traditional Council, Engr. Safiyanu Allahnanan II, pledged the traditional rulers’ support to mobilize their people to come out and register, which he described as a noble exercise, and urged INEC to ensure transparency in the conduct of registration.
The DPO of Qua’an-Pan Divisional Headquarters, Adamu on behalf of the security agencies, assured their cooperation to safeguard INEC during the registration process, under the umbrella of synergy with the local government council to maintain law and order in the process.
The statement disclosed that present at the program were representatives across political parties, including PDP, APC, ADC, LP, YPP, NNPP, among others, who highlighted the collective resolve of stakeholders towards promoting a peaceful and inclusive registration process in the local government to ensure the participation of all parties.
It however disclosed that Other key attendees were representatives of Pan Youth Association (PYA), Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Jama’atul Nasrul Islam (JNI), National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), marketers’ associations, and several others who all pledged their support for building a stronger democracy.
