The United Nation Development programme (UNDP) in collaboration with a Non Govermental Organisation, Murna Foundation has concluded arrengement for the training of 2,000 youth to mitigate effect of Climate change toward restoring peace in katsina and Sokoto states.
The programme is under the Programme Climate Peace Hub, a Climate security approach to conflict prevention in the two northwest state, Katsina and Sokoto.
The chief Executive officer of the Murna foundation A’isha Ahmad disclosed that the the selected youths will be trained in repair and installation of Solar power and other skills for self reliance.
She revealed this at Capacity building Programme for 100 stskeholders from Jibia Local Government held in katsina.
Mrs Ahmed sai Jibia local government in Katsina state and Illelah local government in Sokoto state were selected as pilot council areas for lmplementation of the Programme.
She explained that a Peace Hub structures will be set up in the two local government and provided them with all facilities for the training of the selected youth.
According to her, the selected youth will receive training on how to use waste to wealth and other skills
Her words “we will also train them on briguette making and mud stoves to reduce use of firewood for cooking and other domestic use”.
She said the Peace Hub will also be used as venue to discuss issues as it affect insecurity and how to maintain Peace.
Mrs Ahmad noted that the steps taken will create awareness and enlighten youth to strengthen and ensure peace in their communities.
Earlier, Katsina state Commissioner of Youth and Sport, Hon. Aliyu lawal Shargalle described the programme as laudable iniative and commended the foundation and UNDP for assisting the state to overcome insecurity problem.
Zakari said katsina state is ready to give adequate support and will identity areas of collaboration for the success of the Programme.
In his Speech , vice Chairman of Jibia local government, Aminu Aliyu praised UNDP for construction of 150 houses in Jibia to shelter person displaced by banditry.
Aliyu assured that the council will ensure success of Climate Peace Hub Programme in the area.
