The United Nations Children’s Education Fund (UNICEF) has urged government to strengthen community ownership on the Climate Resilience Infrastructures and Basic Services (CRIBS) Handedover to Jigawa by FCDO, UNICEF and other partners.
The call was made by the UNICEF country representative Mrs Wafaa Saeed while delivering her speech during the Handover ceremony of Schools and Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs), held at Chamo town area of Dutse local government Jigawa state.
She explained that, the effort is part of the promised and agreement signed between UK government through Foreign Commonwealth Development Office (FCDO), UNICEF and other partners on how tackle Climate Change Challenges.
“To fullfil the promise to children, families and communities who deserves saves spaces to learn and receive care even in the faces of climate changes, we have upgraded 29 facilities in Jigawa including 12 health centers and 17 schools using smart Climate resistance solution.
“Today we are not only handing over the keys of schools and healthcare centers but, a model for how to deliver climate resilient services not only for Jigawa, Nigeria or regions but the continent at large “, Saeed said.
The UNICEF country representative then, commended Jigawa, and federal governments for the support towards the actualization of this promises.
While making his remarks, the state governor Malam Umar Namadi commended UNICEF, FCDO and other partners, and assured state government’s readiness to continue partnering with them for better Jigawa state.
