Plateau State is gearing up for the 2025 edition of the Plateau Cultural Carnival, scheduled to hold from December 12 to 14 in Jos. Organisers say this year’s event will promote tourism, enhance peacebuilding and boost the state’s economy.
Chief Convener of the carnival, Debrah Jalmet, announced the preparations on Monday during a press briefing at the NUJ Secretariat. She described the carnival as a fast-growing platform for cultural preservation, creative expression and youth engagement.
Jalmet noted that the event, now in its third edition, is strategically designed to showcase Plateau’s rich heritage while opening up opportunities for small businesses, artisans, hospitality operators and actors in the creative industry. According to her, the carnival is also expected to reshape public perception of the state by projecting its cultural diversity and artistic identity to a national audience.
The 2025 carnival will run with the theme, “Sounds of Plateau.”
The three-day celebration will feature a lineup of activities including a celebrity city tour, a street concert, cultural parade, school competitions, art and craft exhibitions, culinary showcases, theatre performances and a closing gala with awards.
Several Nollywood stars are expected to attend, alongside cultural troupes and creative groups from within and outside the state.
Organisers project increased visitor traffic, extensive media coverage and boosted business activity for hotels, restaurants, transport operators and local vendors during the carnival period.
Jalmet expressed optimism that the event has the potential to grow into one of Nigeria’s most recognisable cultural festivals, contributing significantly to Plateau’s economy while reinforcing its identity as a home of peace.
The Plateau State Government, relevant ministries, private organisations and development partners are supporting this year’s edition, with security agencies also set to provide coordination, crowd control and ensure public safety.
“As we count down to December 12th to 14th, we invite Plateau people and Nigerians across the country to join us in celebrating culture. The Plateau Cultural Carnival 2025 stands as a beacon of unity, creativity and cultural pride,” Jalmet said.
