The Chairman of Gombe Local Government Area and Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Gombe State Chapter, Barrister Sani Ahmad Haruna, has donated N2 million to Christian orphans, widows, and other vulnerable persons to mark the Christmas and New Year celebrations.

Barrister Haruna said the donation was made through the leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Gombe Local Government Chapter, noting that the gesture was aimed at supporting the less privileged and promoting peaceful coexistence in the area.

According to him, members of the Christian community in Gombe Local Government expressed appreciation for the donation through a letter of gratitude, describing the support as timely and encouraging.

The council chairman explained that the local government leadership has consistently shown concern for orphanage homes, adding that officials regularly visit such centres to share meals and celebrate with the children during festive periods.

He further disclosed that during the recent 16 Days of Activism, the local government also extended support to some orphanage homes and would continue to prioritise humanitarian interventions for vulnerable groups.

Barrister Haruna used the occasion to extend his Christmas and New Year greetings to Christians in the area, wishing them a peaceful and joyful celebration.

On security, he assured residents that adequate measures had been put in place to ensure safe Christmas processions, stressing that the council was working closely with security agencies to prevent a recurrence of the incidents recorded during last year’s Boxing Day celebrations in Tumfure and Billiri areas.
