The Chairman of Safana Local Government Area in Katsina State, Hon. Abdullahi Sani Safana, has completed the construction of a dam in the Dan Ba Fashi forest one of the key promises he made to the Fulani settlers in the area during a peace accord.
The dam was officially commissioned on his behalf by the Leader of the Local Government’s Legislative Council, Hon. Kamaladdeen Salisu Illela.
The initiative marks a practical step in implementing non-kinetic strategies in peacebuilding by fulfilling negotiated agreements with forest-dwelling Fulani groups.
It could be recalled that on Sunday, August 10, 2025, Safana LGA under Hon. Abdullahi Sani Safana brokered a peace deal with the Fulani community in the forests as part of efforts to restore lasting peace in the area. During the meeting, he pledged to provide basic amenities for the community, including the construction of this dam to support their livelihood.
One of the key Fulani leaders, Malam Hayyu, who has been monitoring the progress of the project since inception, received the local government delegation warmly during the commissioning ceremony.
The delegation included the Councilor in charge of Works, Hon. Ubaidu Khalid Gora, the Director of Works, and the Director of Water Resources and Environment, among other local government officials.
