Umaru Musa Yar’adua University (UMYU), Katsina, has graduated 2,862 students at its 14th convocation ceremony, held at the University Convocation Square in the institution’s Main Campus, Katsina.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shehu Salihu Muhammad, said the ceremony marked another milestone in the university’s steady growth, noting that UMYU has expanded from about 1,000 students at inception to over 20,000 students, with 117 undergraduate and postgraduate programmes currently offered.

Professor Muhammad explained that the university has maintained uninterrupted academic activities, improved internal governance, strengthened research collaborations, and achieved full accreditation for all programmes.

He congratulated the graduands, including 31 First Class graduates, and commended Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, for continued support to the institution, particularly the prompt payment of staff salaries and other interventions.

As part of the ceremony, UMYU conferred Honorary Doctorate degrees on four distinguished personalities, the former NIA Boss, Ambassador Ahmed Rufa’i Abubakar, Ambassador Ali bin Ghanem Al-Hijri, the late President Muhammadu Buhari, and Governor Dikko Umaru Radda in recognition of their contributions to public service and national development.

Speaking on behalf of the recipients, Ambassador Ahmed Rufa’i Abubakar thanked the university and urged the graduands to serve society with honesty, dedication and integrity.

Goodwill messages were delivered by Vice-Chancellors, Rectors and Provosts of Katsina State tertiary institutions, as well as representatives of institutions from the Republic of Niger.

The convocation was attended by senior government officials, traditional rulers, and other dignitaries from within and outside Katsina State.
