The New Executives in 287 wards of All Progressive Congress (APC) in Jigawa state have emerged through a peaceful consensus.
The Chairman of ward and local government Congress in Jigawa, Alhaji Shehu Mu’azu, expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the congresses across the state, describing the exercise as peaceful and marked by unity among party faithful.
Mr Mu’azu announced the development while fielding questions to journalists after monitoring the congresses in parts of the state, the chairman said he was impressed by the orderly conduct of members and the overwhelming spirit of consensus that characterised the exercise.
“Alhamdulillah, I want to thank Allah for what I have seen in Jigawa. The conduct of our people, our party members, is excellent. In all the places we visited, what we just did was affirmation,” he said.
He explained that the affirmation process adopted in most wards was in line with the party’s constitution, noting that where there is consensus and only one contestant for a position, affirmation is permitted.
“It is allowed once you have leaders and only one single contestant. Where there are no other people contesting, what we do in our party is to affirm, and that is what we have just done. We affirmed their election,” he stated.
The APC chairman attributed the smooth conduct of the congresses to the collective resolve of party members to maintain cohesion and strengthen the party ahead of future political contests.
“There is consensus among the party faithful in Jigawa that we need to maintain unity so that our party will come out stronger as we march towards 2026. This is our election,” he added.
On preparations for the forthcoming local government congresses, Mu’azu expressed confidence in the party’s readiness, saying lessons learnt from the wards congresses would guide improvements in subsequent exercises.
“We are highly prepared because the success of the wards congresses will determine what we are going to do at the local government congress. Whatever shortcomings we have noticed, we are going to do better in the forthcoming local government congress,” he assured.
The chairman thanked party members for their cooperation and peaceful disposition throughout the exercise, urging them to sustain the tempo as the party advances towards the next phase of its internal democratic process.
