The Jigawa State Steering Committee on the Polling Unit Development Fund has reaffirmed its commitment to ensure the smooth implementation of the programme across the state through adherence to the principles of prudence, fairness, and accountability.
This was contained in a statement signed by Public Relations Officer Ministry for Local Government and Community Development, Comrade Naji Umar and made it available to news men.
The statement said, Chairman of the Committee, Honourable Ibrahim Garba Hannun-Giwa, Commissioner for Local Government and Community Development, dropped the hint during an advocacy visit to His Royal Highness, the Emir of Hadejia and Chairman of the State Council of Chiefs, Alhaji Adamu Abubakar Maje. The visit was aimed at seeking royal blessings and strengthening stakeholder support for the successful rollout of the initiative.
The Commissioner explained that the introduction of the programme is driven by its potential to deliver positive impacts, particularly in bringing government closer to the grassroots and enabling prompt responses to the needs of people in hard-to-reach communities. He noted that this aligns with the core priorities of the administration of His Excellency, Governor Umar A. Namadi, FCA.
In his remarks, His Royal Highness, the Emir of Hadejia, Alhaji Adamu Abubakar Maje, expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah and commended Governor Umar A. Namadi for the reintroduction of the programme. He emphasized that the initiative will significantly support communities in addressing their immediate and critical development needs.
The Emir further called on citizens to ensure the judicious utilization of the fund, particularly in tackling pressing societal challenges. He also expressed confidence in the composition of the Steering Committee, noting that its members possess the integrity, professionalism, and experience required to deliver on the mandate effectively.
The team, led by the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Distinguished Senator Mustapha Makama Kiyawa, also conducted a stakeholders’ engagement session with the seven-member Local Government Standing Committees drawn from all eight Local Government Areas within the Hadejia Emirate. The engagement focused on grievance redress mechanisms, during which valuable inputs were received, documented, and addressed accordingly.
The team comprises Honourable Ibrahim Garba Hannun-Giwa, Commissioner for Local Government and Community Development (Chairman); Distinguished Senator Mustapha Makama Kiyawa, Chief of Staff to the Governor; Engr. Gambo S. Mallam, Commissioner for Works and Transport; Barrister Bello Abdulkadir Fanini, Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General of the State; Alhaji Adamu Muhammad Garin-Gabas, Principal Private Secretary to the Governor; Adamu Garba Dutse, State Auditor-General; and Shehu Muhammad Kaila, Auditor-General for Local Government Audit (Member).
Yusha’u Muhammad Jaji, Permanent Secretary, Ministry for Local Government and Community Development, serves as the Secretary of the Committee. Also All the Local Government Chairmen under the Hadejia Emirate.
