The Federal High Court sitting in Dutse Jigawa state, has adjourned the case of alleged Abducted Jigawa Minor (name withheld) to March 26 for hearing of application on the unconditional release and reuniting the victim with her family.
The girl who was under custody of Jigawa State government but still living in Abuja, allegedly abducted from Hadejia local government area and sexually abused of by an operative of the Department of State Security (DSS). Mr Ifeanyi Onyewuenyi.
When the case was called, the prosecution, counsel, Mr Kabir Adamu, informed the court that he was ready to proceed.
Speaking during the sitting, the defence counsel, Mr Abdulmalik Sani, requested the court for extension of time to file counter affidavit.
Sani, consequently, sought a date for hearing of his application.
The trial judge, Justice Hassan Dikko, consequently, adjourned the case until March 2026 for hearing of preliminary objections and all pending applications.
Speaking to newsmen after the court session, the prosecution counsel said:
“We are in court to move the court to grant an application seeking the unconditional release and reuniting of the victim with her family and also compel the DSS to handover the suspect, Ifeanyi Onyewuenyi to the Commissioner of Police in Jigawa for discreet investigation and also for the court to set aside every step taken by the DSS in respect of the case as an interested party as it negates their interest in the matter and then conducting investigation negates the principles of fair hearing.
“You cannot be a judge in your own case. Today, when have heard the application, the court adjourned because the respondents, through their lawyers applied for little time to put their house in order as they claimed they’re preparing their counter affidavit and need some information to set their records straight”.
The families of the victim whom were present at the Court told news men that they are at the Court to witness court judgement of their daughter.
According to them the victim name (withheld) disappeared at four months to 16 years old but unfortunately “we just received information that she delivered a baby”, family said.
