No fewer than 19 persons have been reportedly killed following attacks by suspected bandits on Dandume and Jikamshi communities in Katsina State.
The attackers, said to be in their hundreds and riding on motorcycles, stormed the two communities and fired sporadically, killing about 15 people in Dandume and four others in Jikamshi.
The bandits also reportedly looted and vandalised houses and shops, destroying foodstuffs and other essential commodities worth millions of naira.
Following the incident, the Katsina State Government paid a sympathy visit to families of the victims and residents affected by the attacks.
The state delegation, led by the Deputy Governor, Malam Faruk Lawal, represented Governor Malam Dikko Umaru Radda during the condolence visit to the affected communities.
Speaking during the visit, the governor expressed deep sorrow over the attacks, describing them as senseless and tragic, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan.
Radda said his thoughts and prayers were with the people of Dandume and Jikamshi over the attacks that claimed several lives.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening security measures across the state and vowed to pursue all lawful means to ensure justice for the victims.
The governor also called on residents to use the holy month of Ramadan to pray for peace and stability in Katsina State and the country at large.
