The Management of Adamawa state Polytechnic Yola(SPY) said normalcy has been restored in the institution following a peaceful protest staged by its supposed graduating students.
Rector of the polytechnic, Professor Dahiru Mohammed Toungos made the disclosure in an interview with Daily trust on Tuesday stressing that some graduating who were earlier advised to register with the JAMB portal before their final examinations but refused to hide to the advice.
Professor Toungos said that when the JAMB desk officer of the polytechnic informed the college authority and the concerned students were advised to do the right thing but deliberately refused until now when they want their final results for release to attend the mandatory National Youths Service corp NYSC which could not be possible with out the JAMB acknowledgement.
Recall that on Monday, the graduating students of the Polytechnic, Yola (SPY) staged a peaceful protest at the Rector’s office before trekking to Government house Yola to register their grievances.
Some of the affected students interviewed emphasized that their
message is clear because their future is being delayed.
Findings revealed that Many students who graduated in 2023, 2024, and 2025 are still waiting for their accreditation to appear on the portal, but nothing has been done. Even students who just finished this year, and those currently in HND 1, are now worried they may face the same problem.
The departments mostly affected are Biochemistry and Science Laboratory Technology (SLT) with the students had their Higher National Diploma,HND programs.
A student who pleaded for anonymity confirmed that the most shocking part is that the HND SLT programme started since 2021, and the school has already graduated two sets of students, while preparing to admit a third set in 2025 — yet the programme still does not have full accreditation from NBTE (National Board for Technical Education).
“Because of this delay, many graduates cannot go for NYSC, even after spending years studying and paying school fees.
“We have written letters and asked
questions many times,and tried to get answers from the school management
but we keep hearing the same response: “We will do it soon.”
“Unfortunately, nothing has changed until today so we held a peaceful protest inside the school and later went to the Government House, hoping our voices would be heard. Sadly, we were not allowed to enter.
“This is why we are once again calling on Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri to urgently intervene and ensure the programme receives proper accreditation”. The source lamented
