Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from local government areas under the Daura Emirate have cautioned that emerging internal disagreements over alleged candidate imposition could weaken the party’s support base and jeopardize its chances in the 2027 general elections if not urgently addressed.
The warning was issued during a stakeholders’ meeting held in Daura, under the leadership of a former Attorney General of Katsina State and ex-National Legal Adviser of the APC, Barrister Usman Ahmed El-Marzuk.
The meeting followed the circulation of reports on social media alleging that some local government party Chairmen and leaders in the Daura Emirate had begun announcing names of preferred candidates purportedly endorsed by the State Governor for the 2027 elections.
The development sparked widespread reactions, particularly among party members and aspirants who expressed concern over claims that certain candidates were being imposed from outside the state, allegedly from Abuja, as suggested by some local party officials.
Speaking at the meeting, the stakeholders unanimously expressed dissatisfaction with the alleged arrangement, rejecting any move that undermines their relevance, dignity, and participation in the democratic process.
They stressed that such a system suggests a lack of confidence in grassroots stakeholders.They recalled the position earlier articulated by the Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umar Radda, during a stakeholders’ engagement in Abuja, where he assured that no candidate would be imposed on the people, emphasizing that only candidates accepted by the electorate would be supported.
The meeting resolved to constitute a high-level committee comprising representatives from all local government areas within the Daura Emirate. The committee is expected to engage the Governor directly to seek clarification and foster mutual understanding on the matter.
Prominent figures at the meeting included Hon. Shehu Abdu Daura, a former Special Adviser on Drug, Narcotic and Human Trafficking; Hon. Yusuf Bello Maiadua, former member of the House of Representatives representing Daura, Sandamu, and Mai’adua; as well as the Chairman of Daura Local Government, Hon. Bala Musa Daura.
Others in attendance were the APC Chairman in Daura Local Government, Alhaji Mamman S. Bariki, Hon. Ali Haruna Daura, Alhaji Mustapha Jirdede, Alhaji Danladi Kanawa, Hon. Bilyaminu Zango, Hon. Bashir Sade Daura, Hon. Abdu Habu Dan Kum, among others.
