The former presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, alongside his Labour Party (LP) counterpart, Peter Obi, have moved to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
Their defection comes against the backdrop of the protracted internal crisis rocking the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which had fuelled speculations about their next political steps.
The two former Presidential candidates formalised their entry into the NDC during a strategic meeting held at the Abuja residence of the party’s National Leader, Senator Seriake Dickson.
Their formal joining the NDC comes at a time when political changes are continuing to unfold in Nigeria, especially as opposition parties seek to unite to prepare for the upcoming general elections.
This development marked another significant step forward to the battle of Nigeria’s leadership, ahead of 2027 general elections, at a time when the Tinubu’s led administration is facing criticism of incompetency, lacking in guaranteeing dividend of democracy, especially security of lives and properties
Obi, in his remarks, cautioned party faithful against taking internal disagreements to court, instead advocating dialogue and internal reconciliation processes as the best way to sustain unity within the party.
