The Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) has installed Rev. Chidi Joseph Madubuko as its new Vice President in a significant leadership transition aimed at strengthening the church’s mission and spiritual growth.
Rev. Madubuko succeeds Rev. Dr. Stephen Sunday Ajise, who retired from active service after serving ECWA meritoriously for 35 years.
The installation ceremony, held on Saturday at the ECWA International Conference Hall in Jos, also featured the unveiling of Rev. Dr. Ezekiel Babatunde Omidiji as Trustee for Zone 9, succeeding Rev. James Asonibare.
Performing the installation, ECWA President, Rev. Dr. Job Ayuba Bagat, described the responsibilities entrusted to the new leaders as sacred and urged them to serve with dedication and humility.
“You are therefore expected to work diligently, humbly, and faithfully for the extension and expansion of God’s kingdom in accordance with the ECWA Constitution and Bye-Laws,” Rev. Bagat charged.
Delivering a sermon titled “Starting the Ministry Well and Ending Well,” based on 1 Corinthians 9:19-27, Vice President of the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN), Rev. Associate Prof. Benjamin Pokol, emphasized that the Christian race requires complete submission and unwavering commitment from beginning to end.
He noted that leadership in the church comes with significant responsibilities and sacrifices, urging Christian leaders to emulate the example of Jesus Christ as the Good Shepherd.
Rev. Pokol expressed concern over what he described as a growing leadership gap within the Christian community.
“Christianity has changed. There are many people in the Church, but few are truly being followed. Enough of cherishing personalities,” he said.
He stressed that Jesus Christ fulfilled His ministry within the divine mandate and timeframe given by God, adding that Christian leadership demands sacrifice and selflessness for the benefit of others.
“The Christian race demands sacrifice and self-denial so that others can benefit from the fruits of the Spirit. Christianity is not for those who think they have arrived but for those who continually depend on God.
“We must return to the basic theology of what God has mandated us to do—loving those in need and promoting unity among our churches,” he admonished.
In his acceptance remarks, Rev. Madubuko pledged to support initiatives that promote institutional health, responsible stewardship, transparent leadership, and faithful administration within ECWA.
“We must work together as one family under God. We may come from different regions, languages, cultures, and backgrounds, but in Christ, we are one body,” he said.
Rev. Madubuko brings extensive leadership experience to his new role, having served in various capacities within and outside ECWA. His background in accounting, theology, church administration, and inter-denominational service is expected to provide a strong foundation for his leadership as Vice President of the church.
