The Jigawa State Ministry For local government and community development in collaboration with Jigawa State Local Government Service Commission and Association Of Local Government in Nigeria have agreed to institutionalize a quarterly Local Government Sector Meeting to strengthen the policies.
In a statement signed by Public Relations Officer Ministry for Local Government and Community Development, Comrade Najib Umar said, the decision was made during a meeting with Honourable Commissioner, Ministry for Local Government and Community Development, Hon. Ibrahim Garba Hannun-Giwa, the Executive Chairman, Jigawa State Local Government Service Commission, and the members of Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Jigawa State Chapter, held at Sir Ahmadu Bello Hall New Secretariat Dutse.
The initiative is aimed at streamlining policy implementation and strengthening the management of the affairs of the twenty-seven (27) Local Government Areas in the state, agreed to held a monthly meeting, is also designed to align the Local Government sector with the developmental priorities of the present administration under the leadership of His Excellency, Governor Umar A. Namadi.
This resolution was disclosed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Alhaji Muhammad Yusha’u Jaji, who represented the Honourable Commissioner at the joint meeting on behalf of other key stakeholders. He emphasized that the decision became necessary in view of emerging challenges within the sector, which require collective effort and coordinated responses for effective resolution.
In his remarks, the Executive Chairman of the Local Government Service Commission, DIG Uba Bala Ringim (Rtd), assured the Commission’s full support and commitment to the successful implementation of the initiative. He further charged all Local Government staff under the Commission’s supervision to demonstrate dedication and professionalism in discharging their duties in line with the objectives of the reform.
The meeting reaffirmed the commitment of all stakeholders to strengthening governance at the grassroots level and ensuring improved service delivery across the state.
Also in attendance were all 27 Local Government Areas Chairmen, Secretaries, Directors of Administration and General Services, Directors of Planning, Research and Statistics, as well as Treasurers.
