The Jigawa State Police Command has recorded another significant operational success in its sustained efforts to combat crime and ensure the safety of lives and property across the state.
In a statement signed by Police Public Relations Officer, Jigawa State Police Command, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, said,
On a recent operation, today, Thursday, 06th August, 2026, at about 0300hrs, personnel of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), while on routine pin-down patrol along the Rashid Shekoni Teaching Hospital axis, Danmasara quarters, Dutse, intercepted a tinted Sharon Galaxy motor vehicle, ash in color with reg. no. ABC 440 KJ, conveying seven occupants whose movements aroused suspicion.
The statement added that, Upon being signaled to pull over for routine security checks, the driver refused to comply and sped off, prompting the operatives to give the vehicle a hot chase. The pursuit ended when the suspects eventually stopped the vehicle at Baranda Bush and opened fire on the police team in a desperate attempt to evade arrest. The operatives responded professionally, forcing the hoodlums to abandon the vehicle and flee into a said Baranda bush.
According to the statement, during a thorough search of the vehicle, one of the suspects was discovered inside with injuries sustained during the exchange. He was immediately evacuated to a medical facility for treatment but was later confirmed dead by a medical doctor.
He identified items recovered from the abandoned vehicle include two machetes, three sticks, ropes, and one Tecno handset. Efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects and unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident. Investigation is in progress.
The statement maintained that, in a separate development, the Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the alleged abduction of a one-and-a-half-year-old baby boy.
The breakthrough followed a distress call received from Babura General Hospital reporting the disappearance of the child from the pediatric ward. Acting swiftly on credible intelligence and investigative leads, police operatives tracked and arrested Khadija Aliyu ‘f’ age 20yrs of Kinkinau Quarters, Kaduna state at the outskirts of the town while she was in possession of the abducted child.
Further investigation led to the arrest of one Sadik Sale Yahaya ‘m’ age 25yrs of Zango Quarters, Gumel Division, a nursing officer attached to Babura General Hospital, who allegedly conspired with the woman in carrying out the criminal act. During interrogation, the woman confessed to taking the child to an orphanage in Kaduna State with the intention of selling the baby for the sum of two million naira (₦2,000,000.00).
The rescued child has been placed in protective custody and will be reunited with the biological family after the completion of the necessary procedures. The suspects remain in police custody while investigations continue to ascertain the full extent of the conspiracy and identify any other accomplices.
The Commissioner of Police, Jigawa State Command, *CP Tijjani Murtala* commended the bravery, professionalism, and prompt response of the operatives involved in both operations. He reassured residents of the Command’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property, urging members of the public to continue supporting the Police by providing timely and credible information that will aid in preventing and combating crime throughout the state.
