The newly deployed Commissioner of Police in Plateau State, CP Faniyan Ayodeji, has unveiled a new policing agenda focused on professionalism, human rights, accountability, community partnership and technology-driven crime fighting.

CP Faniyan announced the agenda on Friday at his maiden press conference in Jos, barely three days after assuming office as the 47th Commissioner of Police in the state.

He said his administration would work to improve public confidence in the police by providing efficient, transparent and timely service while respecting human dignity.

The Commissioner warned against police brutality, unnecessary aggression and other practices capable of creating tension between officers and members of the public.

He said the command would shift from reactive to proactive policing, with greater emphasis on intelligence gathering and coordinated operations to prevent crime and tackle security threats.

CP Faniyan also declared zero tolerance for corruption and unprofessional conduct, saying anti-vice squads would be strengthened and public complaint channels widely publicised to enable residents report alleged misconduct.

On security collaboration, the Commissioner said no agency could effectively secure the state alone, promising greater intelligence sharing and operational cooperation among security agencies.

He also placed community policing at the centre of his strategy, promising to make Divisional Police Officers and Area Commanders more accessible to residents while involving traditional and religious leaders, civil society groups, vigilantes and other stakeholders.

CP Faniyan said the command would equally embrace technology and intelligence-led policing to respond to criminals who increasingly use drones, explosives and other sophisticated equipment.

He appealed for additional personnel, equipment and logistics to strengthen the command’s capacity, while assuring police officers that their welfare would remain a priority.

The Commissioner further warned residents against jungle justice, stressing that the torture or killing of suspected criminals is unlawful and that perpetrators could face prosecution.

He urged residents across the 17 local government areas to provide credible and timely information to security agencies.

CP Faniyan expressed confidence that with cooperation between the police and the people, Plateau State could become one of the safest states in Nigeria.
