Jigawa Govt, HANDS Engages Media To Achieve Inclusive Eye Project

The Jigawa State government in collaboration in collaboration with HANDS Nigeria, engaged Media practitioners to ensure successful implementation of comprehensive and inclusive eye health project in the State.

The project funded by German Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and CBM focuses on awareness creation on the importance of eye health, how citizens can access eye health and capacity building of health personnel.

Speaking during a one day workshop on the role of media in a Comprehensive and Inclusive Eye Health Project-BMZ, held at Hotel Dutse, the chairman Jigawa State eye health committee Dr Usman Abdullahi Hadejia who is represented by Dr Abubakar Abdullahi Guri explained that, the project is implemented in five secondary health facilities in the state.

He listed the facilities as Dutse general hospital, Hadejia general hospital, Gumel general hospital, Ringim general hospital and Kazaure general hospital.

According to him, the project was domesticated from National eye health plan to state plan to help in achieving the desired result in the state.

While delivering his speech, the HANDS state program manager, Yusif Lawan explained that, BMZ and CBM are committed to improve eye health inclusive with special recognition on child and vulnerable groups, but these can only be achieve with support from media as media has a vital roles to play through awareness campaigns for the success of the projects.

He identified some of the activities conducted under the programs including visit to179 communities for community Mobilization campaign during the World Sight Day and world Glaucoma Week

According to him, 42 organizations of People With Disabilities (PWDs) for advocacy and awareness creation campaign, 60 media practitioners and 78 private facilities were engaged for sensitization.

He then commended Jigawa State government and all other stakeholders for their support and commitments for the successful implementation of the project.
