The Nigeria female and also indigene of Gombe State, Maryam Ibrahim Dan’azumi, has emerged overall winner of the 46th King Abdulaziz International Qur’anic Competition in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The winner who is a student of Abubakar Siddiq Community Islamic School for Qur’anic Memorisation in Herwagana Quarters, Gombe, represented Nigeria at the prestigious international competition, where she competed in the category covering memorisation of the entire Holy Qur’an, recitation, Tajweed and Tafsir (60 Hizb with Tafsir).countries to emerge first overall, bringing great honour and international recognition to Gombe State and Nigeria.

Her victory is particularly historic because the 46th edition marked the first time females participated in the 46-year history of the competition, making Maryam’s achievement even more remarkable.
Meanwhile the Gombe state governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya congratulated Maryam, her family, teachers and the entire Muslim community in Gombe.
The congratulatory message was contained in a statement signed by Ismaila Uba Misilli, Director-General, Press Affairs, Government House, Gombe state.
The statement described her accomplishment as a source of immense pride for both Gombe and Nigeria at large.
Governor said, Maryam’s success demonstrates the value of discipline, dedication and commitment to learning, while highlighting the immense talents and potential of young people in Gombe State.
“I am deeply proud of our daughter’s exceptional achievement on the global stage. Maryam’s triumph exemplifies the excellence and rich educational heritage of Gombe State. Her victory brings pride not only to Gombe but to Nigeria as a whole.”
Governor Inuwa Yahaya added that the achievement would inspire more young people, particularly girls, to pursue excellence and distinguish themselves in their chosen fields.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting the educational development of young people, including Qur’anic and religious education, which he described as essential to nurturing discipline, good character and responsible citizenship.
Maryam’s journey to the international stage is itself a story of remarkable consistency. She emerged first at the Gombe Local Government Area level, first in Gombe State, and first nationally, before representing Nigeria at the international competition in Makkah, Saudi Arabia.
Governor also said he looks forward to receiving and personally honouring Maryam upon her return to Nigeria, noting that recognising such outstanding achievements would encourage her to sustain her pursuit of excellence while inspiring other young people to aim higher.
He commended Maryam’s parents, teachers, religious institutions and other stakeholders for their roles in nurturing her talent and urged them to continue providing young people with the support and opportunities needed to develop their abilities.
Governor Inuwa Yahaya also acknowledged the significant contribution of Abubakar Siddiq Community Islamic School for Qur’anic Memorisation to Maryam’s success.
