Some aggrieved primary school teachers have registered their dismay over the non compliance to implement their new promotions and enmullments by the Adamawa state government.
Reports had it that Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has issued a directive that all pending promotions and enmullments arrears should be paid to all civil servant s across ministries, Agencies and depart ments,MDGs with effect from last month May 2026.
Few affected teachers interviewed in Yola Monday expressed displeasure with the non challant attitude of the governm ent towards the welfare of teachers in the state accusing the government of abandoning them for over twenty years without promotion in their carrier.
They complained that, teachers on grade levels 05 to 06 are being paid N68,000 to N72,000 as monthly salary(ies) while the newly employed on levels 07 to 08 are receiving N100,000 as monthly wages respectively.
Investigation by this paper has revealed that majority of the primary school teachers in the state have been working without promotion for decades until recently when Governor Ahmadu Fintiri promised them that all their pending promotions and enmullments will be implemented in May 2026 but up to now nothing has been done yet.
Mohammed chubado,a teacher said in an interview that he has been promoted in January 2007 but no implementation as he is having less than nine months to retire from service.
Chubado lamented that despite being on level 13, his salary earnings is far below expectations noting that some of his mates in the civil service have even retired as permanent secretaries and has been a teacher for nineteen years (19).
Another primary school teacher, Maryam Mahmud said that non implementation of the Governor’s directive is uncalled for because it really beats our imagination.
Mahmud explained that when such important pronouncement came during the 2026 May Day celebration and was affirmed by our labour Union leaders,we all believed them but we in second week of June and no head way.
She criticized previous governments for not doing anything to address this predic ament all this long stressing that it is not fair for a teacher like myself,who has been on level twelve (12) but receiving the salary of a level nine (9) teacher in the last nineteen (19) years.
Efforts to speak to the state chairman of Nigerian Union of Teachers, NUT.Comrad e Faisal Mohammed was not fruitful as calls and SMS message sent to his verified mobile phone number were not picked, returned and responded at the time of filing in this report.
However in his response to the issue, the commissioner for information and strategy,Hon.Leader Leneke confirmed that government has started bureautic process and will soon be implemented by the Governor.
Leneke urged civil servants in the state to show some understanding with the workings of government assuring that Governor Ahmadu Fintiri is a promise keeper and that everything will come to at least the following month.
“Let me be honest with you because the Governor made the promise last month, May.So we need to give benefits of doubt to next month.
“Some of these things goes through a process,at least let’s leave it to the following month and if nothing happens then we can now rightly raise questions” . The commissioner maintained
However, the state government recently released the employment of 5000 post primary school teachers, 2000 health workers and another enrollment of 5000 new workers in to the state civil service is ongoing making a total of 12,000 workers under Governor Ahmadu Fintiri led administration.
