A non Governmental Organization known as Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC), has engaged Stakeholders with aims to reduce risks of Tabacco Smokes on women in Jigawa state.
Speaking during the one day workshop, the CISLAC program manager Mr Solomon Adoga said, the meeting aimed to engage Civil Society Organizations in Jigawa on Tabacco control Issues with special focus on how it affected women.
“The concerns is on how we can collectively design a better solution to this challenge, by developing a framework for Jigawa to regulate use of Tabacco in the state as the devastating consequences of the use of these products is too risk, and also to domesticate and ensure implementation of the National Tabacco control law passed in 2015”, he said.
According to him, Tabacco affected everyone but, women are largely perceived as Secondhand smokers of Tabacco by virtue of being around men that use the products, though this doesn’t mean women are not users but statistics shows they are low numbers but mostly affected through second hand smokes which raises public health concerns with consequences on breasts Cancer, Cervical Cancer and maternal health complications.
Mr Solomon then urged the participants to Intensify efforts through advocacy strategy to relevant authorities for the domestication and implementation of the law in Jigawa state.
