The Economic Community of West African States Commission, ECOWAS in partnership with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency,NDLEA has presented working equipments worth over N200Million to the Adamawa state government.
Presenting the equipments to the state government,representative of ECOWAS Dr. Daniel Amankwa said the gesture is part of the Commission’s renewed Commitment to tackling the effects of drug Abuse among member States in the Country.
Amankwa stated that, the donation is part of the commission’s activities all over the Country starting with Adamawa State so rehabilitation centers can be conducive atmosphere for looking after the victims of drugs abuse in our communities.
He highlighted that, the gesture is meant for aiding the fight against drug abuse and addiction among youths and families across the State.
In his remarks, Commissioner for Health and Human Services Chief Felix Tangwami expressed gratitude to the donors saying that the equipment would be guarded jealously and use judiously.
Represented by the permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Pharmacist Mathias Bubani.Tangwami applauded Governor Fintiri’s administration unwavering commitment towards improving the health standard of people in the state.
According to him, Drug abuse remains the major public health challenge in the Country, expressing optimism that the equipment will help the government to achieve the fight against substance abuse in the State.
On his part, the Commandant of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency, Adamawa State Command, Commandant Salihu Abubakar highlights the major causes of drugs abuse and addiction as a major causes to both the Government and the entire Society.
Abubakar expressed optimism that the equipments will provide room for additional services in the rehabilitation centers as it be a morale booster to personnel.
In his contribution, the Chief Medical Director Specialist Hospital Yola, Dr. Dauda Wadinga, described the rate of drug abuse and addiction as worrisome in the society, commended the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for their tireless efforts in the fight against drugs, urged the government to develop a road map to ensure proper education to its citizenry.
The commission had at the donation noted that Drug abuse and addiction is gradually becoming a major problem in the society, a situation stakeholders say requires campaign to families and community members to end the menace.
Items donated to the Adamawa State Government at a brief ceremony on Friday include ; drugs, generators, and other Health Services equipments.
