The Gombe State Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) Project has been celebrated by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Gombe State Council, for maintaining an exceptional working relationship with the media.
The recognition came during the NUJ 2025 Dinner and Award Night in Gombe, where the project stood out among public institutions for its consistent engagement with journalists and its role in promoting environmental awareness across the state.
Presenting the award, NUJ officials applauded ACReSAL’s commitment to openness and timely dissemination of information, noting that the project has set a benchmark for transparency and collaboration between government agencies and the press.
Speaking after receiving the honour, the State Project Coordinator, Dr. Sani Adamu Jauro, described the recognition as a testament to the project’s deliberate policy of inclusiveness and public accountability.
He attributed the achievement to the leadership style of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, whose administration, he said, prioritises effective communication and encourages institutions to work closely with the media in driving development narratives.
Jauro acknowledged the critical role of journalists in amplifying the impact of ACReSAL’s interventions, particularly in educating communities on climate change, land restoration, and environmental sustainability.
He disclosed that the project had earlier supported the training and sponsorship of five journalists who later emerged as leading voices in climate reporting within the state, a move aimed at strengthening professional and impactful journalism.
While praising media practitioners for their dedication, he also urged them to remain committed to ethical standards and continuous professional development in order to sustain public trust.
The coordinator dedicated the award to Governor Inuwa Yahaya, whom he described as a champion of environmental sustainability, as well as to the national leadership of the project and the entire ACReSAL team for their collective contributions to building climate resilience in Gombe State.
