Muryar Birnin Kudu, the principal umbrella organisation representing and coordinating all community development associations in Birnin Kudu Local Government Area, respectfully calls on the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) to urgently restore electricity supply to communities served by the Birnin Kudu–Gwaram feeder line.

This was contained in a statement signed by Malam Kabiru Zubairu the Ag. Publicity Secretary of Muryar Birnin Kudu and made it available to news men.

According to the statement, for the past two weeks, residents have been without power after a devastating windstorm destroyed eight utility poles. The prolonged delay in restoring power has caused immense hardship and continues to undermine the socio-economic wellbeing of thousands of people across the affected communities.

“The consequences of this prolonged blackout are both far-reaching and deeply concerning. Commercial activities have been severely disrupted, businesses are incurring significant financial losses, artisans and small-scale enterprises have seen their livelihoods brought to a standstill, while healthcare facilities, educational institutions and households continue to grapple with the daily challenges associated with the absence of electricity.

“Beyond the economic implications, the continued power outage presents a growing security concern. Extended periods of inactivity and economic deprivation risk exposing young people to criminality, social unrest and other forms of anti-social behaviour. Restoring electricity is therefore not merely an infrastructural necessity; it is a matter of public safety, economic resilience and community stability”.

The statement maintained that, in light of these pressing circumstances, Muryar Birnin Kudu respectfully but firmly urges KEDCO to accord this matter the highest priority by immediately deploying the required personnel, equipment and resources to repair the damaged infrastructure and restore electricity supply without further delay.

The Muryar Birnin Kudu, equally appeals to the Executive Chairmen of Birnin Kudu and Gwaram Local Government Areas, the District Heads and other respected traditional institutions, distinguished political office holders and elder statesmen, prominent entrepreneurs and business leaders, philanthropic individuals, as well as all community-based and civil society organisations, to lend their voices and influence towards ensuring the prompt resolution of this unfortunate situation. At a time like this, collective leadership and coordinated action are indispensable in safeguarding the welfare and prosperity of our communities.

“As the leading voice and coordinating platform for all community development organisations within Birnin Kudu Local Government Area, Muryar Birnin Kudu enjoys the confidence, support and collective mandate of the people it represents. The organisation remains steadfast in its commitment to promoting sustainable development, protecting the interests of the people, and constructively engaging relevant authorities on matters affecting the wellbeing of our communities”, the statement said.

The statement then expressed confidence that KEDCO, together with all relevant stakeholders, will respond with the urgency, responsibility and compassion that this situation demands. The people of Birnin Kudu, Gwaram and neighbouring communities deserve no less.
