Lincoln University Malaysia, Kumo Campus, has pledged to support the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Gombe State chapter, in hosting its 2026 Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Scientific Conference.
The Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Adamu Sadiq Abubakar, gave the assurance while receiving members of the conference’s Local Organising Committee (LOC) in his office.
Prof. Abubakar, a medical doctor and long-standing member of the NMA, described the proposed collaboration as a strategic step towards strengthening healthcare delivery, medical education and community health services in Gombe State.
He said the university, the first foreign institution approved to operate under Nigeria’s transnational education framework, is committed to producing globally competitive graduates while allowing students to study locally and obtain internationally recognised qualifications.
According to him, Lincoln University offers programmes designed to meet global labour market demands, particularly through its Faculties of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences, Science and Computing, and Management and Social Sciences.
The vice chancellor also highlighted his longstanding involvement in the medical association, having served as Chairman of the NMA in Gombe State between 2006 and 2008, Assistant National Secretary-General from 2008 to 2010, Chairman of the Accommodation Committee during the association’s National Executive Council meeting in Gombe in 2008, and Chairman of its Pilgrimage Committee from 2010 to 2012.
Earlier, Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, Dr Ahmad Ya’u Kashere, said the delegation visited the university to congratulate Prof. Abubakar on his appointment and seek institutional support for the conference and future areas of collaboration.
He disclosed that the 2026 NMA Gombe AGM and Scientific Conference will hold from July 19 to 25 and will bring together medical and dental practitioners from across the country.
According to him, activities lined up for the week-long event include an opening ceremony, scientific sessions, medical outreach programmes, visits to orphanages, road walks, public health campaigns and sporting events.
Dr Kashere said the conference would provide a platform for professional development, knowledge sharing and community service, adding that the partnership with Lincoln University would enhance the academic quality and wider impact of the event.
He expressed confidence that the collaboration would contribute to a successful conference while promoting stronger ties between academia and the medical profession in advancing healthcare in Gombe State.
