UNICEF, CS-SUNN Advocates Reduction of Stunting Rates To 20% in Jigawa

A non Governmental Organization known as Civil Society Scaling-Up Nutrition in Nigeria (CS-SUNN) with support from United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), has advocated for the reduction of Stunting rates in Jigawa from recent figure of 55.7% to 20% in the next three years.

The target was announced by the Co-chair National Steering Committee of CS-SUNN, Dr Radio Olusegun while speaking to news men at the two-day capacity building of members on Nutrition advocacy modules held at Tahir Guest hotel Dutse.

He explained that, though there is a little progress in the reduction of children Stunting rates in Jigawa State but still more need to be done save the lives of our children and the future of the state.

“In Jigawa state there is need for collaborative effort and engagement of all stakeholders to address the issues of malnutrition and Stunting of children for better socio-economic development of the state.

“This can be achieve by continues advocacy to relevant authorities for more budget allocation and release for Nutrition, six months maternity leave for lactating mothers and improve of Masaki Nutrition program among many others”, he said.

The Co-chair maintained, that the two day training will boost the capacity of members on effective advocacy, driving impact and Sustainability, Alliance Sustainability, Alliance Alignment and workplan development ( promoting action and intentional planning.

He then commended the participants and urged them put the skills into action to achieve the desired goals.
