As the 2026 World Hausa Day celebration draws closer, Hausa people across the world have been urged to come out in large numbers to demonstrate their pride in the Hausa language, history and cultural heritage.
The celebration is scheduled to take place tomorrow, Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at the palace of the Sarkin Hausawan Najeriya (King of the Hausa People of Nigeria), Amb. Alhaji Sani Adamu Geza Garkuwan Hausawan Duniya, in Kano.
The call was made by the Chairman of the Northern World Royal Council, African Chiefdom and Council, Ambassador Alhaji Ibrahim Haruna, who described the celebration as an important opportunity to unite Hausa people and raise awareness about the significance of the Hausa language.
According to him, World Hausa Day is not merely a day for celebration, but also an opportunity to reflect on the important role the Hausa language has played in uniting communities, promoting education and culture, and preserving and disseminating the history of the Hausa people in Nigeria, Africa and beyond.
He urged traditional rulers, community leaders, scholars, women and young people to attend the event in order to strengthen unity and solidarity, while demonstrating to the world the important role that the Hausa language and culture continue to play in the lives of African communities.
Ambassador Haruna also called on the media to give greater attention to promoting the Hausa language, history and cultural heritage, warning that failure to preserve what has been inherited from past generations could lead to the loss of important aspects of history.
He said, “What we fail to protect may be taken away by history,” stresing the need for Hausa people to come together and protect their language and culture while making them a source of pride for future generations.
The chairman further reaffirmed his support for initiatives aimed at promoting unity among Hausa people, developing the Hausa language, preserving their cultural heritage and creating a brighter future for young people.
He congratulated the Sarkin Hausawan Najeriya on organising the celebration and prayed that the event would serve as a foundation for greater unity, peace and development among Hausa people in Nigeria, Africa and across the world.
