A former Senior Special Assistant to Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, Barrister Aliyu Musa, has defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), alongside no fewer than 1,800 members of the APC and Labour Party (LP) in Billiri Local Government Area of Gombe State.
The defectors were formally received into the PDP during a political gathering organised by the Awareness and Unity Programme in Billiri, where they also declared support for the governorship aspiration of former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Professor Isa Ali Pantami.
Announcing his defection, Musa said he decided to leave the APC because of his belief in Pantami’s leadership capacity and vision for the development of Gombe State.
He described the former minister as a competent and experienced leader with the ability to provide purposeful leadership and accelerate socio-economic growth across the state.
According to him, the growing support Pantami is attracting from different political divides reflects the confidence many residents have in his ability to lead Gombe to greater heights.
Musa called on the people of Billiri and the state at large to unite behind the aspiration, saying it represents an opportunity to deepen development, strengthen inclusive governance and improve the welfare of citizens.
Receiving the defectors, PDP leaders in the area welcomed the new members and assured them of equal opportunities and full participation in the affairs of the party.
They described the mass defection as a significant boost to the PDP’s grassroots strength ahead of future political contests in the state.
Party supporters and stakeholders who attended the gathering said the influx of members from the APC and LP further underscored the growing momentum behind Pantami’s political movement across Gombe State.
The event attracted party officials, community leaders, youth groups, women leaders and supporters from various wards in Billiri Local Government Area.
