As part of effort to achieve environmental Sustainability through Climate Action and Waste to Wealth Development, the Jigawa State Environmental Protection Agency (JISEPA) with support From United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), engaged 200 School Children in Innovative plastic waste to wealth upcycling.
This was announced by the Managing Director Jigawa State Environmental Protection Agency (JISEPA) Sanitarian Adamu Sabo while delivering his speech at the Launch of the program held on Wednesday at Birnin-Kudu local government area Jigawa State.
He explained that, this is part of twelve points agenda of the present administration under the leadership of Governor Malam Umar Namadi to achieve environmental Sustainability in the Jigawa.
He maintained that, two local government of Birnin-Kudu and Sule-Tankarkar were selected to pilot the program, while ten primary and junior secondary schools selected from each of the to local governments.
According to him, the target is to achieve environmental Sustainability, wealth creation, promote environmental sanitation and to discipline children on how to grow up self reliant.
While delivering his speech, UNICEF WASH Specialist, Dr Uba Lawan said, this is the collaborative effort between Jigawa State government and UNICEF aimed to address climate change challenges in the state.
He said, the program will also help in addressing flood challenges caused by plastic Waste, as Jigawa Environmental Protection Agency will help in collection of waste and recycle it to wealth.
The UNICEF WASH Specialist added that, school children were engaged and trained on Waste to Wealth program for educating them to grow self dependent.
Also speaking at the event, the executive chairman Jigawa State Universal Basic Education (SUBEB) Professor Haruna Musa, who was represented Director training, Alhaji Ibrahim Idi Hashim by
Commended UNICEF and JISEPA for the initiative.
