The Governing Council of the Gombe State College of Education and Legal Studies, Nafada, has announced the appointment of new principal officers, underscoring a renewed push for accountability, transparency and institutional reform.
The appointments were formally presented at a ceremony led by the Council Chairman, Hon. Aishatu Jibri Dukku, who described the development as a critical step towards strengthening leadership capacity and improving the college’s overall performance.
Dukku said the selection process followed due procedure and received the approval of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, noting that merit and transparency were central to the exercise.
“The appointment of these officers reflects our commitment to due process and the need to position the institution for greater efficiency and growth,” she said.
She commended the Gombe State Ministry of Higher Education for its role in facilitating the process, highlighting the importance of collaboration among key stakeholders.
She also acknowledged the contributions of the Director of Tertiary Education, Abulhakim Mudassir, and other participants involved in the exercise.
According to Dukku, the council conducted a rigorous two-day interview process to ensure that only the most qualified candidates were selected for the four principal positions.
“We undertook a thorough and transparent assessment to identify individuals capable of delivering on the institution’s mandate,” she added.
She urged the new appointees to justify the confidence placed in them, stressing that effective leadership demands discipline, integrity and a strong sense of responsibility.
In his remarks, the newly appointed Provost, Dr. Dawud Muhammad, described his appointment as both an honour and a responsibility, pledging to lead with diligence and integrity.
“We are committed to working together to advance academic standards and reposition the college for sustainable development,” he said.
He also praised the council for maintaining a transparent and merit-based selection process, and acknowledged the support of the Ministry of Higher Education.
The appointments signal the beginning of a new leadership phase at the institution, with stakeholders expressing optimism that the new management team will drive reforms and enhance the college’s academic and administrative standards.
