The Plateau Initiative for Development and Advancement of Natives (PIDAN) Central Zone has strongly condemned the killing of at least 15 persons, including security personnel, in Kawel Community of Mushere District, Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State.
In a statement jointly signed by the Chairman of PIDAN Central Zone, Alpha John Dakwak, and the Secretary, Prof. Katkukah Danjuma Gokum, the group described the attack as a “gruesome and senseless act of violence” that has once again plunged the community into mourning.
The attack, which reportedly occurred under the cover of darkness, left several families devastated and heightened fears among residents of the area.
PIDAN expressed shock and sadness over the incident, stating that the continued attacks on innocent citizens who seek only to live peacefully in their ancestral homes are unacceptable.
“We strongly condemn this senseless act of violence and the continued attacks on innocent citizens whose only desire is to live peacefully in their ancestral homes,” the statement said.
The organisation extended its condolences to the families of the victims, the people of Mushere District, Bokkos Local Government Area, and Plateau State as a whole.
“We pray that God grants eternal rest to the souls of the departed and comfort to all those mourning their loss,” the statement added.
PIDAN called on security agencies to intensify efforts to apprehend those responsible for the attack and ensure they are brought to justice.
The group also urged the Federal Government and the Plateau State Government to take urgent and decisive steps to strengthen security in vulnerable communities across the state.
“We call on security agencies to intensify efforts to apprehend the perpetrators of this heinous crime and bring them to justice. We also urge the Federal and Plateau State Governments to take urgent and decisive measures to strengthen security in vulnerable communities and prevent further loss of lives,” the statement said.
According to PIDAN, the recurring attacks on communities across Plateau State continue to pose a serious threat to peace, development and social cohesion, stressing the need for all stakeholders to work together to achieve lasting peace.
The organisation reaffirmed its solidarity with the people of Kawel Community and pledged to continue advocating for justice, peace, and the protection of lives and property across Plateau State.
“PIDAN stands in solidarity with the people of Kawel Community during this difficult period and reaffirms its commitment to advocating for justice, peace, and the protection of lives and property across Plateau State,” the statement concluded.
